[-'dɔʎʎo], Pietro, italienischer Marschall (seit 1926), * Grazzano Monferrato (heute Grazzano Badoglio, Provinz Asti) 28. 9. 1871, ✝ ebenda 1. 11. 1956; seit 1916 General, führte im November 1918 die italienische Abordnung bei den österreichisch-italienischen Waffenstillstandsverhandlungen. Er war mehrfach Generalstabschef des Heeres (1919-21, 1925-29, 1933-39), 1928-33 Generalgouverneur von Libyen. 1935-36 befehligte er die italienischen Truppen im Krieg gegen Äthiopien. 1936-37 war er Vizekönig von Italienisch-Ostafrika. Dem Eintritt Italiens in den Zweiten Weltkrieg stand Badoglio kritisch gegenüber. 1940 machte ihn Mussolini verantwortlich für das Misslingen des griechischen Feldzugs und entließ ihn als Chef des Oberkommandos der Streitkräfte (ab 1939).
 
Nach der Verhaftung Mussolinis (25. 7. 1943 berief König Viktor Emanuel III. Badoglio zum Ministerpräsident (bis 1944). Am 3. 9. 1943 schloss Badoglio einen Waffenstillstand mit den Alliierten. 1945 wurde er wegen Begünstigung des Faschismus aus dem Senat (Mitglied seit 1919) ausgeschlossen, 1947 rehabilitiert.
